Aug 08,  · My theory, and I may be wrong, is that the main difference between the sound of a trumpet and a modern brass band cornet is not necessarily the level of brightness but rather the broadness of sound. I feel that trumpets tend to have more of a concentrated sound with more core whereas brass band cornets have a broader less concentrated sound.

5. Sep 17,  · As someone mentioned earlier, the only problem with the is it doesn't "look" like a brass band cornet. If you (and the band) don't mind that, then one of those will probably work well for you. I played an old Conn 5A in brass band for a few years and it worked well. It was a short cornet, but was lacking the ubiquitous shepherds crook.
